What can I say, this Scottsdale Scottsdale newborn photography sessions such as these make me feel truly blessed to do what I do and call it “work.” My subjects for this latest shoot included a sweet newborn boy who was so adorably chunky that I just couldn’t get over his little cheeks and perfect baby rolls. (Pity we adults can’t treat our own with similar glee!)
This brand new bundle of joy was a delight to shoot, and his sleepy-serene nature made it very easy to nestle him into a variety of set-ups and backdrops. For the photo session his parents and I chose soft, cozy fabrics, making little “nests” for the baby to keep him warm and comfy throughout the shoot. Judging by his peaceful little smile I think it worked!
Antiquated hardwood flooring and nautical blues, grays, and lilacs, as well as burlap accents, formed the perfect color and texture scheme, lending an earthy but elegant touch to the portrait series. I chose to offset these shots with a traditional white setting as well, which rendered the little one the unmistakably classic focal point.
Photographing babies at this new stage in their lives is a precious task, and one I savored that day. And unlike the challenge of photographing youngsters past the age of two, who have already begun to develop into miniature people with personalities to match, newborns are relatively immobile and expressionless, making it vital for the parents and photographer to find other methods of expression. By utilizing the right color palette, background textures, and lighting, we were able to highlight this darling boy in a way that was both natural and memorable.
