beautiful family {phoenix az family photographer}

On a clear winter day that was unusually warm I was lucky enough to shoot my second session with this beautiful family. This little guy is one of the happiest, most photogenic little boys a photographer could hope to meet. I first photographed him as a newborn, and it was an honor to be able to capture more special moments for this military family as their little one celebrated his first birthday.

We started the session at the studio for some first birthday pictures. As you can see, this blue-eyed beauty didn’t hesitate to get a taste of his smash cake. A second set with a furry rug and a wooden airplane really captured the spirit of this sweet boy while also paying subtle homage to his parents’ service to our country.

Once we were finished with the cake smash we headed outdoors to one of my favorite outdoor locations.  We started the session on a gravel lane. The tree line provides a nice backdrop but didn’t distract from the subjects. The whole family wore neutrals and jeans, which gave them a casually complementary look without being too matchy matchy. Not only did every member of the family wear a cohesive and flattering outfit, but I really appreciated how they chose styles that are unlikely to date the photo in a few years. As you can see from the family shots, this little boy really knows how to work a camera!

After the family shots, I photographed each parent alone with their son. This really allows you to see the unique bond each has built with their child. Mom and baby were fresh-faced and loving. Dad gave his best buddy a toss, and I was there to capture that split-second grin that says everything you need to know about the joy and trust between a father and son.

Next we took some solo shots of the little boy on a rustic crate. Even at a distance, this angel just naturally glows! His parents swooped him up for some more group photos. The whole family’s body language is so natural, relaxed and warm. You can’t fake that kind of love. We moved in front of an old barn, and once again the little boy was the star of the show, hamming it up for the camera from on top of a sawhorse.

After the family photo shoot, we returned to the studio for some first birthday pictures. As you can see, this blue-eyed beauty didn’t hesitate to get a taste of his smash cake. A second set with a furry rug and a wooden airplane really captured the spirit of this sweet boy while also paying subtle homage to his parents’ service to our country.
