As a Washington DC newborn photographer, my job brings me face to face with beautiful families every day. This recent session with Dad, Mom and their much-loved new addition was one of my favorites. This precious newborn baby girl is already a natural in front of the camera, even when she’s sleeping.
A white backdrop and soft, neutral muslin swaddle really brought out the rosy glow that only newborns seem to have. Just look at that dark hair and those long lashes! While babies are known for having chubby fingers, this little girl’s were surprisingly long and elegant. (Maybe she’ll be back in a few years to get portfolio shots for her hand modeling career.)
Next we photographed her under a crocheted blanket wearing a delicate, bespoke headband with tiny roses. The accessories were lovely, but again this baby’s natural glow outshone them all. To really emphasize how rosy she was, we wrapped her in a gauzy pink blanket with a second floral headband. You can see by how relaxed this sleeping beauty was, all curled up and dreaming sweet dreams.
A pink swaddle wrapped around her body will help her parents to remember how tiny she was while also drawing attention to those perfectly adorable feet. A printed swaddle reading, “Love You Forever & Ever” perfectly captured the mood of this shoot. As a busy Washington DC newborn photographer I witness a lot of special moments, but it’s rare to capture one of these beautiful dream smiles in a baby this young.
A super soft, netted white blanket and white shag rug gave the photos in this part of the session a modern but still heavenly look. Precious, tiny toes and a close-up on her kissable face were musts. I just had to get another picture of those beautiful fingers, too. This little princess’s parents really aced their accessory selection with several rustic and romantic headbands plus an old-fashioned knit bonnet.
I took some wonderfully textured photos of this angel. First, her parents swaddled her, then we made a nest of blankets. She looked like a baby in a fairytale with her pretty little face resting on her crossed hands while she slept on a bed of lace and fur. Her proud father scooped her up for an Eskimo kiss, and she looked so delicate in his protective embrace. Then her mom cuddled her close, radiating the love and joy that only parenthood brings.
